Does Being An Entrepreneur Require Brilliance?

I honestly don't believe it does.  Sure, you look at the likes of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg,  and you immediately put yourself down because well, you used DOS, and you were totally okay with it, right?  Or you had your favorite tracks on MySpace, so you felt no need for anything else.  (And if you don't know what DOS is, *sigh*, don't say anything because you'll make me feel old.)

Granted, I believe people like them are absolutely brilliant too.  However, I'm not going to let the fact that I never got into Harvard (okay, I never tried), stop me from following a dream.

Here is what I believe entrepreneurship takes, and it's just two simple things:  A Dream and Willingness.

Yep, it's that simple.  You see you don't need a ton of money, and you don't need to be the smartest person you know.  You can always hire out the tasks that you don't know how to do.  In fact, if you know how to do EVERYTHING, you're kind of a freak of nature.

So let's talk about a dream.  You have to at least know a direction you want to go to.  You want to know what it is you want to present to the world, whether it be a service or a product.  I also believe you need to have a 'why' pushing that dream.  Something has to be giving you a reason for even having, and then following that dream.  That 'why' will help keep you going.

Next is not brilliance, but it's willingness.  This one is your big one because you'll never get to your dream if you lack the willingness needed to get there.  I'm not going to tell you that being an entrepreneur is easy.  In fact, there are times that are going to be very hard.  What I'm here to tell you is that entrepreneurship is POSSIBLE, and that's what you need to hold on to.  It's those people who push through those down times who get to stand on the other side, one step closer to their dreams.  And it's the people who give up during those down times, that let those dreams fizzle and die.

I've been frozen in fear before too.  I've been frozen, just staring at something, saying I need to figure this out in order to get to the next step, but I have no idea how in the hell to do this!  I've walked away for a few days, okay, so maybe a few months, but you know what, I always came back.  It's the person who powers through, and the person who figures it out, who is the person that becomes an entrepreneur.

So if you're thinking you may want to become an entrepreneur, but......<fill in any excuse here>, the only question you really need to ask yourself is:  Am I willing to do what it takes follow a dream?

It's seriously that simple.  Are you willing to follow a dream, and if the answer is 'yes', then you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.  You just have to be willing to figure out the things you don't know, and with the world-wide internet at your finger tips, this is easier than ever.  Then adding things like Odesk.com and Fiverr.com, you can do even more.  Use these tools to your advantage.

Stop being so hard on yourself and take that first step forward.  It doesn't require brilliance, it simply requires figuring it out!
