Lesson 10 - Every Business is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

I talked about this some in Lesson 2.  As excited as you are to get your business out to the world, it's going to be hard for people to listen, let alone respond.

Starting a new business is exciting and fun, and even though you know you can help, and really help, anyone who buys your product, the fact is, it's not going to happen over night.

I can also tell you with great certainty that anyone who claims to be an overnight success, isn't.  There has been some work behind the scenes.  There has been some trial and error, and although it feels like their business appeared from nowhere, it didn't.

You have to be willing to be in this for the long haul, or you just won't succeed.  If you're looking for a quick buck, then entrepreneurship probably isn't your game.  Stay in Corporate America where you'll be guaranteed a paycheck in at least a few weeks.

Do I wish I would have had more people at my first event?  Absolutely.  Was it one of the hardest things I've ever done?  Yes.  Do I wish I would have gotten more sponsorship opportunity?  Of course.

But here's the most important question...  Do I know that if I were to walk away from all of this right now, I would be leaving some massive opportunities on the table?  YES

We're talking opportunities for not just money, but for partnerships, more doors opening, you name it.

That's the question you always have to ask yourself as you start gaining momentum, even if it's not the momentum you had hoped.

If you walk away at that moment, what are you leaving behind?

I have said this several times now that I never wanted to do it again.  I was done.  I had accomplished what I set out to do but didn't want to do anymore.

But then I realized how sad I would be to never do one again, and I would be passing up one of the biggest opportunities ever for myself.  Oh, and how cool is it that it's an opportunity that I happened to create myself?

Hang in there.  Pivot if you need to, but know this is a journey.

Buckle up because it's going to be a fun ride!
