[Think Like An Entrepreneur Thursday] Ep 2 - Three Qualities of Successful People

So many people want to start businesses and be what they feel is successful.  However, they get caught up in the thought process that it takes either being privileged, super smart, or luck, to get that place where you can ‘have it all’.

It’s none of those things, though.  Not even close.  There are three things that successful people have learned (and it’s learned, not just born into them) to master, in order to stand above the rest.

1. Learn to embrace fear - Most of the times when people really want to do something, but when they get scared of all the unknown or thinking about failure they back away.  However, if it’s something you really want to do and you know it’s going to be something that will push you to the next level, then the successful person learns that they have to actually do it in order to get on the other side.

Every time I’ve learned to do that, I get on the other side and realize that it’s not that bad at all.  In fact, it’s more amazing than I could have imagined. Want to know a trick on how to get through fear?  I always love to go to the worst case scenario.  So if you did this, you have it all and you failed. What’s the absolute worst thing that could happen to you?  Go there for just a moment and then ask yourself, "Can I live with this?"  If the answer is yes, then you truly have nothing to lose.  In most cases, the answer might be the most excited version of yes, but we will be able to live with it.  No matter what.

2. Learn to take risks - So many of us play it safe.  We do what we know and we never take a risk on ourselves.  We do the college thing and then after that, it’s smooth sailing.  We have to learn to take risks.  Be willing to take a risk at yourself.  If you have something at risk, you’re going to be a lot more prone to follow through.

3. Learn to constantly grow - There was a time in my corporate career where I was proud I could do it in my sleep.  I thought it was a bragging moment.  However, I realized I was coasting.  If you are coasting and realize you are coasting in any area of your life, then it’s time for a change.  Here's a great stat: The average person reads one book a week, while the average CEO reads 60.

It's not about luck.  It’s about being willing to do these three things, and train yourself every single day. You’ll be amazed at what changes for you.
